The restrictive Covid policies in the People’s Republic of China, including lockdowns in many cities and regions, are causing significant disruptions to international mail service from Germany to China at this time. The many airport closings have put a strain on air transport and the situation on the ground poses challenges as well. Shipments are arriving in China, but in many cases fail to receive a tracking number or be further processed. In light of the current situation, we would like to inform you that we are discontinuing service for all Premium shipments (reduced transit time) or those with special tracking service until further notice, since we cannot guarantee our ability to deliver on these services.

The following contract products will be affected by this change; any such items posted on or after May 16, 2022, will be returned to sender:

• DHL Paket International Premium
• DHL Warenpost International Premium
• Warenpost International Tracked / with signature and, due to technical reasons, also Warenpost Untracked
  

We will continue to provide service for our standard products. However, please be advised that you should expect longer transit times when sending letters, merchandise mail and parcels to China at this time, and that we cannot specify the extent of any delays. We currently expect the Chinese postal service – once the lockdowns have been lifted – to begin processing any backlogs without generating tracking events and proof of delivery. Unfortunately, we cannot predict at this time how long a shipment will take until final delivery. Needless to say, we will discontinue the recently announced international crisis surcharge for the shipment of standard (Economy) items to China. We kindly ask that you refrain from inquiring as to the whereabouts of items at this time.

Most heavily impacted by the current situation has been China’s postal delivery network. Because our colleagues at DHL Express operate their own delivery network, they are generally able to handle and coordinate shipment volumes with greater flexibility at this time.
